Copy Number Variation May Stem From Replication Misstep

ScienceDaily (Jan. 4, 2008) — Genome rearrangements, resulting in variations in the numbers of copies of genes, occur when the cellular process that copies DNA during cell division stalls and then switches to a different genetic "template," said researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in a report that appears in the journal Cell.

Palestinian rebel leader in Lebanon spotlight (REUTERS)

The slain leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, received a similar sentence for the same crime.
Abssi denies the link and says he was jailed in Syria for two years and seven months from 2002 for planning an attack on Israeli forces in the occupied Golan Heights.
Lebanese authorities, who maintain that the group is nothing more than a front for Syrian intelligence, said earlier this month that four Syrian members had admitted to carrying out a twin bus bombing in a Christian area northeast of Beirut that killed three people in February.
Abssi, who denied that charge, says his group was the object of a campaign to discredit it as a prelude to military confrontation.
"I believe that there is a move ... against us," he said. "There is a will to escalate, we have found recently harmonisation between some (Palestinian) sides and the Lebanese state, even full military coordination."
A Western diplomat at an Arab capital said members of militant Sunni groups, including Fatah Al Islam, were driven from Syria to Lebanon as a result of a crackdown by the Syrian authorities that intensified last year.

From what I have seen she would not qualify for dog catcher because she has never worked a real job like the rest of us.

My oldest son and his 2 are coming and my other son, his fiancée and her son will be here tomorrow. My daughter in Pensacola can't come because her doctor won't let her travel. She is going to fix dinner for about 10 Marines that are in her husband's class at Corry Station that couldn't go home.

Some random thoughts on the game. Enjoyed Texas showing what they can do for four quarters in the defeat of a very good Arizona State Sun Devils team. I have liked Az St. since the days of Pat Tillman and the OSU Rose Bowl, so I knew this was going to be a tough one, b/c even if we won it was against a team I liked. I think what this game showed the most is that Mack had let up on the throttle this year. This was a good team and was capable of playing some solid football for four quarters, but we only got to see it once against OU this year. OU had a good team, and I was satisfied with UT after that game even though we didn't pull it out. Give credit where it is due, Mack had had enough and was tough on the guys this Xmas. All starting positions were yanked, and everyone was forced to try out for their position.

Team finds clues to resisting HIV

Scientists have found clues to promising designs for HIV vaccines that might bolster natural immunity, expanding a line of attack desperately needed to slow the worldwide AIDS epidemic. An international team led by Duke University scientists found genetic differences in people who appear better equipped naturally to resist HIV. These people get infected when exposed to the virus, but have some biological edge that lessens HIV levels in their bodies early on. Making less virus decreases a person's chance of infecting someone else and can slow the development of deadly AIDS.The genetic finding is the first significant result from an international coalition of researchers that stresses cooperation over the usual competition in the quest to create HIV vaccines. Some compare the coalition to a non-violent Manhattan Project, the high-level 1940s scientific collaboration that cracked technological barriers to making an atomic bomb."I'm expecting very important things from this," said Anthony Fauci, a longtime AIDS scientist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
